The Java platform has become a primary tool of IT organizations throughout the world. This session provides a broad overview of what Java is, how it is used, and what its strengths and weaknesses are. It also includes a broad overview of the Object-Oriented (OO) programming model and how it differs from other programming models.
The session includes an introduction on the core Java platform and an introduction to its three major components: Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME), Java 2 Standard Edition (J2SE), and Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE). It goes on to a broader coverage of J2EE and its key components, which have become a driving force in the adoption of Java industry-wide.
The workshop will also explore and analyze the challenges that organizations face as they adopt these new technologies. The session concludes with a brief overview on how Java interacts with some of the other new technologies such as XML and Web Services.
